When you are fit, it is easy to be fit, because you are, fit. When you are fat, it is hard to be fit because you are, fat. When you are fat, working at getting fit hurts. Everything hurts – your muscles, your joints, your head, your stomach, all hurt. The formula to get fit looks so simple, in fact it is simple. The formula is; lower the intake (calories), increase the output (exercise). When the balance tips in favour of more output than intake, you lose weight. So, the question becomes, why can I not achieve this, consistently, over time? I have thought a lot about this over a long period of time, usually while I am eating and I have some thoughts. Here is why getting fit is hard, when you are fat.
On the eating side, for me to truly change my eating habits I would need a maid, to do the grocery shopping, a chef to prepare the meals and a nutritionist to monitor my portions. That is just impossible, too expensive and way too annoying so I would rather just eat. Here is the honest truth about my eating. I eat, two thirds of my meals, away from home.
There are lunch meetings, staff meetings, lacrosse arenas, football fields, birthday celebrations, retirement gatherings, Rotary meetings, conferences, parties, seminars, movie nights, reunions, weddings, funerals and graduations. And, it is, all bad eating. Have you ever examined those little sandwiches at these catered affairs? They are white bread, butter, processed meat, mayonnaise and cheese. It is a bite sized heart attack. You would be better off to eat the little tooth pick that holds the poison together.
